Description

Much of Ardmore whisky goes into blends, so it's great to see this indie bottling of Ardmore single malt from James Eadie! The Highland whisky was drawn from three refill bourbon casks after maturing for nine years, with an outturn of 662 bottles released for the Small Batch series.

Nose

Honeyed citrus and savoury herbs, with melted brown sugar and a whiff of smoke.

Palate

Slightly salty peanut butter, with more toasted (and burnt) nuts, flamed citrus peel and earthy malt.

Finish

Singed vanilla pod and dark treacle.

Not as good as I'd hoped

I have purchased quite a few bottlings from James Eadie and enjoyed them all to date. This one, though, left me a little disappointed. It's not a bad whisky by any means but it certainly isn't memorable and at nearly £40 for a 9 year year old I would expect a bit more - it just tasted ... well .... ordinary and generic - not like a special small batch outrun.

Lovely

Great value - more complex than it probably has any right to be at 9 years old! Good active maturation.
