Each batch of Ardbeg's popular Traigh Bhan (pronounced tri-van) single malt is aged for 19 years in a combo of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46.2% ABV. Traigh Bhan is a beach on Islay known locally as the Singing Sands, and Ardbeg says it takes inspiration from the white, soft sands juxtaposed against the jagged, volcanic rocks which pierce the sand along the shore.

A very curious hint of olive oil greets you, along with touches of tar, soot, chocolate ginger and even some freshly mown grass. Water opens the bouquet up to reveal some more classic Ardbeg notes, with fennel, peppermint, eucalyptus, and tarry rope to the fore.
The mouthfeel is slightly oily, and is followed by an intense, minty sweetness, along with some toasting bread, creosote, coal tar soap and even a whiff of smoked pineapple. The deep, rich, flavours continue, with dark chocolate, peppermint creams, bonfire embers and camphor.
The finish is reminiscent of coffee grounds and liquorice.

N: There is a substantial nose that is watery…yes this is an oxymoron, but it best describes the nature of the peat rolling through your nostrils. P: A different viscosity lightly initiates your journey to stunning effect. This dry peat is Michelin delivered with a hallowed light smoke keeping watch. F: Swallow this in two parts and this reveals itself to be a world class dram. A masterclass of distilling.
The finest Ardbeg since the discontinuation of the 17 Year Old. Traigh Bhan is the smoothest, longest lasting Ardbeg I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking. Already looking forward to next years batch.
