Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

A brief review after my first taste. Reminds of Laphroaig QC but a little sweeter and not so phenolic. Lots of alcohol burn so adding some water is a must for my palate. Nose is smokier than the Laphroaig. The Whisky seems a little rough, perhaps a 8-10 yr old. The Laphroaig in my opinion is a better bargain and also more flavorful. Maybe that will change as I explore this a little more over the next month. Overall, a very nice Whisky.
Without a doubt one of the best whiskeys I've ever tasted. if you even remotely like Islay wiskey, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.
I've been trying various whiskly offerings over the past year since a trip to Scotland got me interested. This bottle was a present so I had not done any research. To me I was overwhelmed by the scent of medicine or disinfectant and smoke. I note that it did mellow out in a few minutes and I got through to a harsh but tasty salty and smokey flavors. I readily admit that I am inexperienced but this one is not for me.
HAHAHAHAHA, Good idea, stick to your yorkshire garbage. Idiots. Can't get enough of this!
...at least gave me an excuse to double down on the glorious brain-bleach called Corryvreckan. An astounding whisky indeed!
