Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

I've always loved Ardbeg 10 and Corryvreckan definitely kicks things up a notch with even more intense flavour. A big peaty, medicinal nose followed by smokey peat, citrus, tar, smooth sweet wine flavours which when combined with the peat give interesting sherbet and liquorice flavours. Intriguing and incredibly complex. At 57.1% a tiny dash of water is highly recommended.

I really think whiskies as good as this Ardbeg should be reviewed by the more experienced and educated drinker. It cannot in my humble option be fully appreciated by the average or uneducated whisky drinker. There is of course I suppose nothing to stop you buying it if you want to. James Saxon
isn't sarcasm the lowest form of wit? it would be great if you gave us your thoughts on this whisky and the ones you mentioned and Ardbeg in general. as for me, I love the Corryvreckan, I have already bought a second bottle. It is a deep, rich and beautifully balanced whisky.
