Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

The reviewer below 'patchman56' claims that it is snobbish to say a whisky such as Ardbeg Corryvreckan should only be reviewed by educated persons. I have to say having read patchman56's comments then I believe he has proved NOT disproved James Saxon's statement. For instance we are discussing whisky NOT whiskey. Please get it right if you want to comment. You begin by saying "I by any means is not an expert"??? Point proved!
I by any means is not an expert on whiskey--- but to state this whiskey should only be reviewed by educated drinker-- is very unfair and quite snobbish-- I take offense to that statement--- whiskey can be enjoyed by anyone--- this is a great whiskey the balance between high abv-- smoke and peat is exceptional-- for the price there are few that compete--- it's slightly better than Uigeadial--- I have 75 bottles of Scotch to my collection and this remains my top ten along with Laphroaig 18 -25 ; Highland 18-- and an Indian whiskey Amrut Fusion for $60.00 that competes with the best Scotch--- who decides who is the expert when it comes to taste--- who decides what is best--- no one but you---to let only the select few decide whould be censorship and the worst thing that could happen to any product----I'm patchman56 thd non-expert and proud of it
I'll admit I will not be soon trying any of the older very expensive scotches. But for all I've tried under $80 or so Corryvreckan is undoubtedly the best. Strong, alcoholic, peat, smoke, dark fruit combine to make this a surreal dram. I'm also a fan of Uigedail, but for me the Corryvreckan is superior. Yum!
This has to be one of the best whiskies I have ever tried. I am an avid drinker of a dram or two and have come to taste many and personally for me, this hits all the spots in the right place. The nose is exceptional. The smokiness like maple bacon oven grilled with layers of creaminess is just unctuous. The Taste is mind blowing. Lots of good smoke nothing too powerful or strong as some whiskies I have tried. Very good balance between alcohol and the smoke reminiscence of smoked meats with buttery mouthfeel. Taste: exceptional finish, lingers lengthily. Very good whisky 10/10
I agree the the "Only for the experienced drinker!". If you drink more common whiskies, you probably don't like this one. Also, if you like the more softer and sweeter whiskies, you may not like this one. I think this whisky is for the people who would like to try new things, to find some spiciness and something to blow your mind :) Still, this is only my opinion;)
