Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

Ardbeg corryvreckan: colour is lighter than uigeadail. Smell is sharper pointing in the pepper/leather. The body lacks the rich aromas of sherry caskets but the peat, the peat! Like diving in the burning process of peat itself, so strong. Then usurped by pepper staying in the lateral parts of the tongue but not for long. Aftertaste is medium and pleasant. A true ardbeg from the richer side.
mixed with crushed and a dash of grand marnier for a fantastic peat cutter aparatif or top up with lemonade for a cool long drink this is the modern islay .
Bit too strong for me. Just smoke and medicine and the alcoholeburning my tastebuds off. Seems toerely only on muscle and peppery burning, drenched in ash. I'd prefer more mellow, aged smoke and complexity as all I get from this is brutality and strength. Bit better with water but not as good as the uige, which I think is much more well balanced and complex, or the 10yr which I find delicous. But if ash, smoke and the burning fires of hell are what you crave in a whisky then this delivers in spades.
Had this one at a whisky tasting in Scotland. Truely a good whiskey but then I would love the classic Ardbeg more
Mycket speciell i smaken. Min flaska är buteljerad 2015-01-05
