Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

I absolutely love this whisky. I’d drink it instead of coffee if I could afford it.
To0 much burn & not enjoyable! It's great on the nose & you think wow this is gonna be good but then you have to add so much water to make it drinkable it then takes all the flavour away. All you have left is just smoke which is a shame as it then lacks on the finish. With all the good reviews I thought this was going to be the one but I found this overrated & not worth the extra price tag. I have tried all of the range & Ardbeg 10 is by far the best of the bunch which has everything in one bottle. Stick with the 10 you can't go wrong.
Picked the bottle up in teh Dublin duty free, as it's not available in Ontario. Very pleased. I tend to love the intensely smoky, peaty whiskies. This is different, but not completely. There's a good hit of smoke, and a woody bite. I really like it.
For me, easily the best whisky in Ardbeg's core range (I don't care for the sherried sweetness in the Uigeadail). At 57% abv it's not for the faint-hearted. There is however definitely an idiosyncratic note, which almost reminds me of cask-aged grappa (I suppose this is from the portion aged in ex-wine casks) which I think is what some drinkers are reacting negatively to. I'm looking forward to tasting it next to the new Blaaack committee release (also featuring ex-wine casks).
The review that says "Not sure" could have been written by me. It's my exact thoughts. Glad I tried it. Won't recommend or buy again. Not a patch on lagavulin 16.
