    Ardbeg Corryvreckan

Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…

    Palate

Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.

    Finish

Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.

    Overall

    Astonishing.

    Best I've Ever Tasted

I hosted a tasting for guests the weekend of my daughter's wedding. Two flights of three drams. The first flight was a brief tour: Balvenie DoubleWood; Aberlour A'bunadh; Highland Park 18 Years Old. All were nice and pleased. The second flight was all Ardbeg, my favorite distillery. We started with the Ten. It'd been a while since I'd had one and forgot how good it is. Then we opened an Oogy. Wow, very nice and full. But we finished with the Corry. By then the room was all peat. You knew there was Ardbeg about without putting your nose to a glass. Then we all tried the Corry. Silence prevailed. Everyone's eyes went wide with amazement. And the first words out of my mouth were, "Wow! That is the best thing I have ever tasted." At the reception they drained both the Oogy and the Corry. I now have two in my cupboard unopened and waiting for a very special occasion.

    Not an Uigeadail or Islay-gator

This is a great dram but the Uigedail and Alligator offer a bit more from what you expect from Ardbeg.

    A True Taste Of Islay!

What a wonderfully unique malt this is. Superb balance and taste. Islay at it's glorious best. Bruichladdich please note a good malt is about attention to detail, skill and above all patience. Not breakneck marketing. Ardbeg again to the fore.
