Ardbeg Alligator

Aged in a similar style to the standard 10 year old, except for the fact that a portion of the whisky was aged in heavily charred barrels. The barrels are charred to such an extent that they start to crack a little on the inside, and this resembles alligator skin, thus the name. The committee release of Ardbeg Alligator was exceptional and incredibly popular. This will follow suit...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Stunning aromas of charcoal, mulled wine and lemon icing sugar. Very creamy, with notes of vanilla and yoghurt, with a huge BBQ note. Some gingerbread and tangy apricots, and burning brown sugar.

Palate Creamy and zesty, with a huge whack of grapefruit and lemon, as well as BBQ sauce, ginger and orange zest. Like a really toasty rye whiskey in parts, with hints of icing sugar, cocoa, gingernut biscuits and intense smoke.

Finish Sweet and creamy with peppery, crackling peat smouldering away for hours.

Overall One of the best Ardbegs we've ever tasted. A mind-blowing malt!

I've been really good, can I have

A real Alligator of a whisky
Ardbeg are masters of packaging and branding. You will see 17 year olds from a previous life..the distilkery closed and was subsequently rescued by Glenmorangie..but they have no real old whisky being released now. We ll have to wait. So, they release - aside from their damn good, salty, peaty natural coloured 10 yr old - annual releases. 2011/2 ..They released Alligator. The insides of the casks were charred giving the appearance of Alligator skin. Far from being a gimmick the resulting whisky ( perhaps 8-10 yrs old) was beautiful. Barbeque, burnt umber, demerera sugar, perfectly balancedWow

My favourite Ardbeg
Just delightful! The smile and peat are still there but it has been smoothed out without losing the essential qualities that makes Islay Islay.

Toffee Orange and Leather
Briny leather nose with lemon cream and a multitude of other complexities. Peppery palate with leather and vanilla. Bitter nut and tobacco finish. If you thought the Uigeadail was not salty/tangy/bitter enough, try this. Bottle aging enriches with more toffee and orange, plus more char on the palate.
