A limited edition bottling of Ardbeg 21 Year Old single malt, matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtration. This bottling was unveiled in the latter half of 2016, as was said to mark the turbulent times that the distillery went through in the 1990s.

A wonderful Ardbeg from yesteryear

Wow, wow, wow! As the review below suggests this isn't like the other mainstream Ardbeg expressions. The nose is of citrus and cloves above that peculiarly subtle, iconic peatiness On the palate it is long and complex, peppery, vanilla, I also get the very faint smoked salmon finish at the end. Like eating a delicious blini! The finish lasts a lifetime and the mouthfeel is so thick it is almost chewy. A serious whiskey and worth every penny! If you can get your hands on a bottle, do!

Despite the price, no regrets, a great buy.

Legs are slow to run and slow when they do, despite the 46%ABV. Nose - smokey, surprisingly so after 21yrs reflecting the strength of peat smoke over time. Slightly diminished smoke compared to the core expression. Peppery and spicey, clove and ginger, perfumed and herbal, smoked salmon takes time to come through with vanilla more prominent. Pallate - salty immediately, matured on Islay throughout would be my guess, smokey bacon, peppers, herbs become prominent. Waxy or creamy mouthfeel, not surprising given the strength of the legs Finish - smokey, finish not as strong as the core expression. A medium length. Smoked salmon comes through at the end as do the herbs. Mouthfeel is strong and waxy. Conclusion - not quite like any other Ardbeg variation. A beautiful and complex malt.

Worth every penny

A quite stunning whiskey, still peaty on the nose but the peat on the palate is subtle and complex. Rich, creamy, sweet vanilla and caramel tones blend with the spicy pepper. Delightful.
