Ardbeg
Scotland
Single Malt
Increasingly rare, now discontinued whisky from Ardbeg. Incredibly rich and powerful, and all too easy to drink.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
A classic whisky, one of the best Ardbegs. Unfortunately the recently issued "re-creation" does not come anywhere close to matching the original 17yo. I bought the new 17 from Ard dot com... not worth the price as a long way from the original (side by side tasting) - sent my unopened re-issue back for full refund. Its very expensive but I'd stick to the original as way way better!
My uncle used to print labels for Glenmorangie , he was given one off 10year old Genmorangie and one off Ardbeg 17 yr old for Christmas, as he didn't drink whisky he gave them to my father, who then gave me the Ardbeg. The best freebie I ever had, and the best whisky I've ever tasted just delicious .
Found a bottle about 6 years ago tucked away in a small wine shop near Bordeaux, (they had a few malts as well as wine) priced at 100 Euro, about £80, Ah could not believe my luck and bought it. One of the best Islay malts ever.
I had a bottle in the nineties bought from the Army and Navy Victoria St London very smooth. Went back to get another a few months later and they were all gone. I wish I had hunted a few bottles down while they were still affordable and most importantly available. This was my first dabble into aged single malts, I may be remembering the taste with a rose tinted pallet. However it made such an impression I have between 20 to 30 bottles in my dedicated whisky cabinet. All open I may add. I recently tried a Liechtenstein single malt whisky finished in a Laphroaig cask and wow.
One of my all time favourites, complex so well balanced and eminently drinkable - We mourn it’s loss! Still have a miniature but can’t bear to let it go!
