Ardbeg 17 Year Old Bottling Note

Increasingly rare, now discontinued whisky from Ardbeg. Incredibly rich and powerful, and all too easy to drink.

Please note: There is a small scratch on the front facing label as pictured, but this is still an incredibly sought after bottling.

This bottle was part of a private collection.

Ardbeg 17 Year Old Reviews

Awesome Islay Art - perfection!

One of my all time favourites, complex so well balanced and eminently drinkable - We mourn it’s loss! Still have a miniature but can’t bear to let it go!

Best scotch ever!

One of the two best Scotches of all time! Complex, smooth, and fantastic!

Best Islay scotch and possibly scotch ever!

Probably the single best single malt scotch that I have ever had and that is going some. Delicate, complex, smooth, nuanced, and literally spectacular!!!

Favorite Islay malt

Impossible to say what might be your favorite malt, as there is too much difference between the regions. When I was in the UK and for several years after, this was reasonably available and affordable. It was always in my cabinet and if pressed I would have to say it was my favorite Islay malt. Definitely out of my reach at today's prices, but as others have noted if I'd known I would have stocked cases of it.

Waste of money

A friend opened a bottle and we drank a dram. Nice but overpriced and a wee bit overrated.

The Best

The best bottle of whisky that I have ever savoured.
Enough said.

Christmas pudding

Fantastic flavour on this great whisky, which does not have the peaty tones of the whiskies of Islay. Unfortunately now retailing at £350 a bottle, but well worth every penny if you have that sort of cash spare.

Simply the Best ...

... Better than all the rest! This is most definitely the best single malt I have ever been proud to have in my collection. My bottle is sadly no more. Asking prices are now ten times what I originally paid.

The good old days

Back in the "good old days", when this was still being produced, it was a regular part of my whisky cabinet and my favorite Islay malt. Now alas it is well beyond affordable if it can be found at all. If I could time travel I'd buy a few cases.

A nice unforeseen gift

My father in law was asked to help a woman in his church clear out her liquor stock. He sent me a picture of the thanksgiving size table full of liquor. In the back of the picture I noticed a bottle of Ardbeg, knowing my Father-in-Law was not as fond of Islay scotch as he is of others, I asked if I could have it. A few days later in a box labeled "olive oil" a box of Ardbeg 17 arrived. I had no previous knowledge of this heavenly liquid and proceeded to open it. After a small taste I was pleasantly surprised at my good fortune. Some days later I, again after drinking a healthy sample of A17, decided to look it up. Although I wouldn't pay $726 for a bottle, I certainly appreciate the pricing. If I commonly spent that amount on a whiskey, this would be the one I spent it on.

The Gentle Ardbeg for a Birthday.

I was lucky enough to be bought a bottle of this by my wife on my Birthday. It was one of the few Ardbegs I hadn't tried before. What a treat it was. More rounded and dare I say gentler than other Ardbegs it was mellow, mature and refined. A truly special malt from a truly special distillery from a truly special person. What more can you want?

One of my favorites

Tried to buy all the bottles i could in 2005-6. I should have ordered a couple of cases. Very unique, essence can be noticed into the next day with only a minimal amount of consumption,(3-4 shots) very strange. I think the only action I have left is to go to Scotland.

Worth the money

I recently found a bottle for £250, in fact I found two. so one is for keeps and one is now open. the whisky is truly immense

I remember when.....

... this was 30 quid in Tescos, beutiful nonetheless, easily my favourite Islay Whisky, georgeous.

A need to understand history...

It's due to the history of the distillery, it was closed from 1991 to 1997 when it was bought by Glenmorangie, so whiskey distilled in that year is currently only 16 years old. I had the joy of having a bottle of this back around 2003-4 and it is a beautiful dram. Would I buy a bottle for this much? That is the real question.

Too pricey?

Ardbeg can't sort it out!! Its supply and demand. Van Gogh can't sort out the value given to a given Sunflowers painting.

9th September 2013

Its good.

But not THAT good!

Pfffffff

500 quid for a 17 year old?! Ardbeg, sort it out!
