A particularly fantastic release from the Darkness indie bottling range - it's a 14 year old single malt distilled by Ardbeg, finished in a Pedro Ximénez sherry octave cask! Because they're smaller than your run-of-the-mill cask, these octave casks offer a greater surface area to volume ratio, and they impart oodles of sherried notes, which work very well with Ardbeg's characteristic salinity and smokiness.
Nose: Enjoyably earthy, with waves of coffee and juicy red apple sweetness.
Palate: Bonfire embers, honey roasted nuts, redcurrants, Seville orange and meaty malt.
Finish: Hints of charred oak remain up front on the finish.
