    Ardbeg 10 Year Old

A phenomenal whisky packing powerful peaty deliciousness, Ardbeg 10 Year Old is a favourite of many whisky lovers around the world. Produced on the Kildalton Coast of Islay, this single malt matures for a decade before being bottled without any chill-filtration. If you're after a whisky full of coastal air, smoke and more, this is exactly what you want.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A ridge of vanilla leads to mountain of peat capped with citrus fruits and circled by clouds of sea spray.

    Palate

Sweet vanilla counterbalanced with lemon and lime followed by that surging Ardbeg smoke that we all know and love.

    Finish

Long and glorious; sea salted caramel and beach bonfire smoke.

    Overall

Precise balance, big smoke and non-chill filtered. This is why this is such a famous dram.

    A confused and disappointing affair

I love peaty drams and after many years i finally tried the supposed legend or Ardbeg. Where to start ...the nose doesn't carry that pure peatiness of a Lagavulin or Laphroaig, theres a sour odour of burnt rubber. Very dry on the palate with a slight bitter note, definitely no sweetness here still carrying that rubbery bitterness through. The finish is very dry, something i quite like but i find the whole experience very confused. The BIG smoke just isn't there for me, its smokey but not a patch on a Laphroaig and its just nowhere near a lagavulin 16, the peat in that has real momentum and carries right through to the finish, here, its all very confused. Disappointing

    kec

    Nasty! just give me Ardbeg.

Master of Malt Customer Jun 9, 2014

I wouldn't say nasty but not what I was expecting

I agree with some of the comments about tasting antiseptic, but a few drops of spring water can do wonders for a palate. The finish i like, not sure I would buy another bottle though.

    Nasty!

Sorry folks. Ardbeg is simply a nasty tasting scotch for me, my wife and 2 of my neighbors. None of us liked it. That peculiar taste of band aids was overpowering and unpleasant. I've blown through about 1/2 the bottle and I can't get used to that taste....never mind enjoy it. Furthermore, none of us could detect that "smokey" taste everyone crows about. Give me Laphroig, Glen Garioch, Jura, Dalmore or Glenfiddich 15 anytime......just don't give me Ardbeg.

    whoa

my favorite whiskey of them all. i'm all about smoky whisky and this is the best yet. Laphroaig is too tame.
