Elements of Islay
Scotland
Single Malt
The Elements of Islay range (or should that be periodic table, considering the whole theme of the series?) grows ever larger with the eighth release of their "Ar" single malt. Now, if only we could crack the code and figure out which incredibly popular Islay distillery this came from...
New leather, caramelised dates, a hint of salted peanuts before leading into well-toasted tea-cakes and seaweed.
Pistachio ice cream, freshly zested citrus peels, crashing waves of smoke.
Quite oak-y on the finish, pairing well with juicy peach and toasty peat notes.

I have been a little disappointed with the limited edition distillery bottlings lately but this has restored my faith. Dark chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla on the palate with a long smoky finish. I even get a hint of kippers or certainly smoked fish (in a good way). Pity there is only a few hundred bottles of this fabulous whisky.
