Ardbeg
Blasda represents a rare chance to sample a lightly-peated dram from the powerhouse Ardbeg distillery. The malt is peated at 8ppm as opposed to the standard 55ppm.

The third commentator certainly has a complexity towards Bruichladdich, this is an Ardbeg, what does Bruichladdich have to do with it?? Btw if i had a distillery i'd loove it to "sink" to the Laddie levels ;) Anyway competent enough but kindof a weaker ardbeg instead of different, being bottled at 40% doesn't help. It is decent enough though
I am a huge Ardbeg fan, particularly the peatier expressions but I thought I would give the Blasda a go since I have tried almost all the others. On the nose, you can tell straight away this is an Ardbeg and it is smokier than expected. It doesn't finish as long as some but this is a very well controlled finish. I think I will be making this a regular bottle to match my Uigeadail and Rollercoaster!
While I think this is a good whisky, it seems more like an experiment for ardbeg. I think this whisky would of benefited from been bottled at 46%-48% and been non-chill filtered like the Ardbeg 10 as it seems to finish a lot quicker then their other whisky labels. Overall while the Blasda is very nice I think Ardbeg could do a lot better. Hopefully they have another attempt at a lightly peated whisky.
Ardbeg is a great distillery and a superb place to visit. The malts are incredible - truly unique! This however may go down as Ardbeg's attempt to try to rival Bruichladdich marketing. It is a hotpotch of a malt which is all over the place. There is no need for Ardbeg to sink to the 'Laddie levels. Forget this and try the true taste of Ardbeg the others are amazing.
