Gordon & MacPhail
Scotland
Single Malt
A very rare Ardbeg bottled by Gordon and MacPhail in 2003. This was distilled in 1975 - a legendary vintage for Ardbeg.
Espresso coffee, pine resin and beeswax. Notes of dried herbs, and a touch of tarmac on a hot day. Almond oil and a hint of peat smoke.
Quite rich with notes of camphor, lapsang souchong, salty butter and marmalade. Hints of creosote.
Oaky with notes of herbs and toffee.
Rich and smooth, medium high peat with a well balanced smoke. Clean but memorable finish with light malt or vanilla notes. If you ever have get the opportunity to try this don’t pass it up.
Absolutely delicious. The rich smokiness is a pleasure to savour. I have tried a number of '72 and '74 drams and they have fallen well short of average but the '75 Ardbeg is truly a bottle well worth opening and enjoying. slàinte mhath
