    Allt-á-Bhainne

The first official whisky from Allt-á-Bhainne distillery, which has previously produced liquid to be used in Chivas Regal blends or the occasional independent bottling. The inspiration behind this single malt Scotch whisky was to blend peat and smoky notes with classic Speyside elements.

The bottle design attempts to honour the '70s style of the distillery with its distinctive geometric shape.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Smoky malt and a prickle of white pepper spice blend with toffee apples, buttery pastry, a hint of heather and toasted oak.

    Palate

Butterscotch, roasted apricot and honey provide sweetness among gingerbread and cinnamon spice and earthy peat.

    Finish

A long finish has plenty of drying smoke and fizzing spice.

Sweet and smoky - does what it says on the bottle

Was initially suspicious but absolutely loved this malt and subsequently purchased again.

    It’s ok, wouldn’t buy again

It’s ok, would not buy again. Seems to be trying too hard to please the crowd. The nose has a smokey hint, it’s pleasant especially if you being introduced to the smokey whisky’s, but doesn’t follow through in the palate, which is surprisingly sweet. It seems too much of a sweetness for me. The finish is long, oily but I don’t get the fizzing spice or smoke.

    No hyphenation please!

It's "Allt a' Bhainne" and not hyphenated. Milky burn. Named after the burn that flows adjacent to the distillery. Not the prettiest distillery but great location close to Ben Rinnes. The whisky usually goes for blending and so it's great to see it being released as a single malt.

    No smoke, no fire

I bought this when it was on offer around the £20 mark and for me that's about the right price. No hint of smoke for my unsubtle taste buds, and it didn't open up much with a splash of water. However, it did have a nice sweetish finish and wasn't a bad dram, but North of £30 I expect better than 'not bad'.

love smoky, love sweet, this does both well

I used to be a fan of heavily peaty, smoking whiskies and then I discovered the subtle tastes of Allt-á-Bhainne. It is easily one of my favourites. Very drinkable and satisfying for those that like the lingering peaty/smoky taste without the heaviness.
