A relatively new distillery, founded in 1975, Allt-á-Bhainne is not only a tricky one to know how to pronounce (it's 'Ollt-err-Vane'), it also produces some terrific whisky. Our second Single Cask Series bottling is another absolute peach, distilled on 25th September 1992 and filled into 166 bottles on 24th March 2015.
As the spirit made its way into the cask for its long maturation, it was probably therefore screaming "'eezer Goode, 'eezer Goode!" along to Shamen, only to emerge over 22 years later to a soundtrack of Sam Smith whining (both the one on the radio and the one that works at MoM towers). We're surprised it didn't jump back in! But we're very glad it didn't, because it's all tasty.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose Vanilla turnovers and nutmeg dusted apple pastries, icing sugar and nougat. Hints of washback notes amongst apple slices with just a little golden syrup and fennel seed.
Palate Pears! Delicious pear flesh and pear skin, with some drying chalkiness. Spicy honey provides the platform.
Finish Ripe pear with more prominent honeyed oak coming through at the end.
Overall A fruity, spicy, honey-ey treat. Textbook stuff.
