    Adelphi Blended Scotch Whisky

A Blended Scotch Whisky from Adelphi, perhaps better known as an independent bottler. However, this blend of grain and malt whisky is from its private stock which is kept in a solera system. Though exactly where the whisky hails from is kept rather hush-hush, we suspect it contains spirit from all over the shop, from Islay, Speyside, and Campbeltown.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

The aroma is a pleasing fusion of salty peat and estery fruitiness. If you like your big fruits Speysiders and your peaty Islays this could be just your thing!

    Palate

The palate takes on a coastal quality with an all-round nuttiness and a medium-body.

    Finish

The finish is long with beach bonfire notes and some pear-drop flavours.

    Overall

This blend takes the best of Scotland and fuses it into something new. A truly excellent blend.

    Fruity and sweet

Lacks compexity and depth. Heavy on the grain. Best for mixing with coke

Best bang for your buck whisky... Tastes like a young Single Malt but isn't!

This was recommended to me and it blew my socks off! Tastes like a single malt but it's not, its a blend. One of the best blends I've ever had. Gonna buy 2 bottles next order for sure!

    Also, The Durie Dram

For the price, you can't this with a stick. It is a nice, all rounder, old fashioned and traditional blend. But it has a good Islay smoke, which is slightly vegetal and does suggest Caol Ila. This smoke is sort of in the back, but it jumps out periodically over the course of the drink. This is not for those who add ice. Ice, is for Grouse. This is a perfectly acceptable sipping whisky in it's own right.

    unbeatable....and the price is amazing

i really like the very specific and unique charasteristic sorts like Ardbed Uidegail, Lagavulin, Glendronach, Glenfarclas.... but: to find a easy going simple every-day Whisky: its not so easy for me. This blend really combines a very smooth and tasty bright complex of different structure. Its really an allrounder. some kind of "thick" and pleasureful. but inside there so much what a good whisky makes us all lovers of that spirit. If you experienced in tasting of Whisky...you will love this one. because it has the incredible nature to remind you of a wide selection of tastes. It even depends on the mood and how you drink the Adelphi. It is like a journey in a wide selection. No peaks and highlights. But all shadows available and remindable. Just if you feel a desire for a strong peated, sherried, salted, or grassed one: this one is a wrong choice. Its simply pefect mediocre. Like a journey through the whisky universe. But again: if you not experienced: you miss a lot. It a pleasureful drink what activates your memory. For a unbelieveable low price. For me (!) the most compareable Whisky is a Bushmills 21. But the Bushmills is a lot more complex ..without any peat or salt. But just from thickness and honey, spicy volume: a match.

    The Durie Dram

I had the old bottling of this under the name of The Durie Dram. For it's price, this is an incredibly good value for money blend. It is blended very well and comes across as something that has married well. The smoke has either a Caol Ila or a Lagavulin thing about it, not too sure on that one though. There is some very good and old grain whisky as well. There is a creamy texture and even after a good half teaspoon to a teaspoon of water is added the legs still quite clearly stick to the glass instead of falling like a rock. It really brings it up. This is a smashing old fashioned blend that still maintains a subtle flavour from the malt. Well done to Adelphi. I give this a 7/10, and in the immortal words of Ralfy; that, is a blend mark.
