Aberlour A'Bunadh #62 Bottling Note

It's batch 62 of Aberlour's very popular A'Bunadh single malt! These whiskies are matured in Spanish Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at cask strength, resulting in a particularly full-bodied and flavoursome dram. Fun fact: the rhombicosidodecahedron has 62 sides. It's a very complex shape.

View all batches of A'bunadh here.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Clove, white pepper, chocolate raisin and malt loaf.

Palate: More malt loaf, though now paired with stewed plum and raw cinnamon.

Finish: Christmas spices and a touch of tobacco.

Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 62 Reviews

Try but don't buy

Nice carmel flavour but the alcohol content is too high for me. Definitely needs water

18th May 2019

Now well overpriced

Overpriced - but there are good alternatives such as Glenfarclas 105 at £47 and Glenlivet Nadurra both bottled at cask strength.

1st May 2019

Nice!

Delicious...

25th April 2019

Over priced

A 100per cent increase in two years. An absolute disgrace.

22nd April 2019

It's still a great dram

The sherry barrels in Speyside need refreshing. Our Scotch club has enjoyed A'Bunadh since cask 46 or so. Comparing the 40's with the 60's, the scotch has changed. US shops are taking A'Bunadh off the shelf and it's become hard to find. I suspect it will be gone for a while, only to reappear as a $120+ bottle of Scotch as has occurred in the UK. Glenfarclas 105 is also very good, but the cost for it at one US shop is $94 + tax! Makes our current $86 for A'Bunadh look cheap! I recommend enjoying A'Bunadh while you can and if you find any 40s, grab it!

5th April 2019

Overpriced

Not worth the money, not even close

4th April 2019

Just being greedy

Way too many better options at a lower price. No way anyone in their right mind should pay these kind of prices for this. Will never buy anything from Pernod Ricard again since they clearly are trying to take advantage of their customers.

A star falls

A massive price rise - Why?
There are plenty of alternatives offering much better value.

20th March 2019

It tastes good, but not £80 good...

One of my favourite whiskys but it is not worth £80 a bottle!
A lovely common whisky... now priced out of its market, there are far nicer options in its new price range.

6th March 2019

A beast

A real sherry and oak beast. Bursting with flavour.
Sadly will not repurchase due to it being over priced in most places. Glenfarclas 105 is half the price and similar quality.
Still cannot deny the quality, one for the experienced drinker to explore, as it takes a while to get to grips with. I also found it a lot more easy to find my palates sweet spot with water once it had been opened for a couple of months. Very strong and spicy when first opened.

Bargains can still be found in the States

Here in the states, I've been able to find the 62 for $75 and that's including tax. Also, that is for 750 ml. The Batch 63 has just shown up and I snagged a bottle at the same price.

22nd January 2019

What a shame

This has been on my "to buy" list for years but I never managed to get around to it... now, thanks to the price hike I guess I never will! I'll be priced out of the hobby altogether if this trend holds up!

23rd December 2018

Wonderful whisky - but what have they done to the price?!

This is an absolutely superb whisky, I buy one every Christmas to enjoy with family and friends... but not now.
What have you done, Aberlour owners?!?! PLEASE give us our favourite Christmas whisky back at it's proper price. Sort it out! Or you will lose a load of loyal Aberlour customers, and rightly so.

5th December 2018

Incredible

Amazing whiskey. I would not listen to any of the bad reviews here. A rating based on price is no rating at all. It's a whiskey review, not a price review. Fantastic in every way.

3rd December 2018

Lost the plot

I think the team at Aberlour have been drinking too much of this stuff and someone came up with the crazy price hike idea to double up to £80! This was always £35-£45 depending on supermarket deals. Never in a million years would I pay over £50 for this. One longtime customer lost.

2nd December 2018

And like that, it was over.

20+ releases of pure, sherry cask indulgence. Years and years of enjoyment. All over in one gigantic price hike by Pernod Ricard. Over £20 in one go. They obviously thought it would lines the pockets - it’s instead emptied the fan club. No more Aberlour A’Bunadh for this devotee.

1st December 2018

That day has finally come...

Some years ago I discovered this whisky, around batch 45/46. It honestly blew me away.

Not the most subtle of sherry bombs, not the smoothest, not the most rounded. But what it lacked in finesse it made up for with sheer force of character and and focus on delivering something very particular. And it did this at a great price. I said as much in my initial review and bemoaned the day when, as the best value whisky for the money, this would inevitability change for the worse.

Looks like that day is well and truly here. Pernod Ricard's price hike on the Aberlour A'Bunadh has achieved the one thing that I thought would never happen, me not buying the product. But there it is, there's only so much you can charge for anything before you hit the price/reward wall and they smashed into that well and truly. The price bump has driven away so, so many avid fans, the people who looked forward to every release and always bout a couple of bottles. It's a real shame. Off to Glendronach we go....

30th November 2018

Used to buy this every year, not now. Too expensive.

I Buy this every year for gifts , not any more, this is a mad price

27th November 2018

Understand the whinging, but still an incredible whisky

Beautiful Christmas dram, happy to buy at £58 on Black Friday but agree that £80 is a bit much. Great palate on this batch though, nice progression through alcohol then spices (quite reminiscent of the Compass Box Spice Tree) to a Christmas cake and sherry explosion. Nice long finish. Interesting nose - pretty restrained, quite a bit of red apple whiff.

26th November 2018

It is not a bargain any more

Agree with the comment below, Superb Dram but they have lost the plot, way,way over priced
They did not even increase the price gradually. It is not a bargain any more and is facing a lot of competition

22nd November 2018

Greedy Price

Superb Dram but they have lost the plot, way,way over priced>

20th November 2018

So long A'Bunadh, it's been fun

Unfortunately the steep price hike has left this whisky with a very bitter aftertaste, I'm looking elsewhere from now on

28th October 2018

Lovely whisky, stupid price.

This is an absolutely excellent dram, but at the new price they won't get my custom again.

24th October 2018

How expensive it is

...weep that prices are up to the sky, and they are yet to rise!?

21st October 2018

Over priced over here.

Used to be a great every day dram but loads better out there for the price after the increase. Seriously overpriced

20th October 2018

So good, but not at the current price

One of my favorites, but there are better for cheaper, don’t buy

18th October 2018

Don’t buy it!!

Too expensive, why the massive increase in price.
I love this whisky but the price hike is ridiculous you can buy alternatives that are just as nice a lot cheaper.
Stop taking advantage of your loyal customers Aberlour!!

13th October 2018

Nice, but not at this price

Shameful price hike, Pernod. My 15 years of buying A'Bunadh are at an end. I shall be looking for better value alternatives.

12th October 2018

Love it despite all of the negative reviews here. Try it!!

Despite reviewers below smacking the product for price hikes, this is one of my most favorite drams. Cost is a factor, I cannot argue with that. Don't give it a half star based on price people, call it what it is. It's a shame it cannot be reasoned out in such a manner.

11th October 2018

Hello GLENFARCLAS 105!

Hello Glenfarclas 105. Yes, that’s right folks, the perfect replacement for this.

Take not Aberlour. A’bunadh was always targeted towards the whisky fans, you’ve just lost half of them with your price hike...

8th October 2018

OK for the price but there is better for less

A nice dram but very expensive for a non-age whisky especially when you consider the far superior Benromach 10yo cask strength is substantially cheaper. nice but very very expensive for what it is.

21st September 2018

Can no longer justify for this money.

Great whisky, lost me now at this price point, was a huge fan and have tried many batches but when competing with Glendronach 18 for the money....madness. Ridiculous hike in price, I would urge anyone to investigate other great distillery’s for this money. Sorry Aberlour, I was a huge fan.

19th September 2018

Not worth it’s new price tag

This was a great whisky for £50. However it’s new found price of £80+ does not reflect what’s in the bottle. Perhaps if it was aged, but not for a NAS even if it is cask strength.

18th September 2018

Overpriced

Was my favourite whiskey but for some reason the price has gone up and this is no longer a choice. This does have a nice fruity, Christmas cake vibe going on but not worth eighty pounds.

17th September 2018

Told Aberlour

Had Aberlour on Facebook - expressed concerns about the ridonkulous price...told 'em to read on here...is no way on earth i will pay these new prices..

3rd September 2018

Why is it now twice the price?

This used to be my goto non Islay for under £50 but now its almost twice the price it used to be. Do yourself a favour and get the Glenfarclas 105. It's under £50 and more sherry notes.

20th August 2018

Leave it on the shelf if you have anything about you

Just bought my Last Ever bottle from Amazon £49 (admittedly getting slightly worse over the batches) So I was already questioning this at £50. Due to the quality of the Oloroso cask (probably 3rd-4th fill) and gone are the heady days of the 30s and 40s that were a surpreme NAS sherry bomb experience- that led you back time and again. Quality has gone down and now the PR team have shafted us mere mortals! Hopefully people will be switched off in droves- and look elsewhere. 75% price increase in 3 years? Good bye Aberlour- it’s been emotional

13th August 2018

Everybody says Yeh!

Dependant, on which frame of mood you are in. This batch. Is still "The nectar of the Gods" Be it flush or skint? This amount of flavours and aftertaste cannot be replicated without witchcraft? Or is easily achieved by any Speyside malt. Macallan fan says "YEH". At same price or more.
A fantastic Malt with correct sniff and a smooth palette With an after taste that has already cried for MORE!

5th August 2018

Fantastic Whisky

I'm not going to give a bad review because of the the (over)price(d), but i'll review the whisky in the bottle.... Great whisky, sweet, warm, complex, full flavoured and as good as previous batches I've had. Needs a bit of water to get best from it in my opinion.

23rd July 2018

This is not a good batch

The price has gone up and the quality has gone down.
Probably used a lot of second fill in this one, so it is not the sherry bomb it used to be compared to earlier batches.

26th June 2018

....another superb release.

Another tremendous batch release of the greatly overlooked and misunderstood A’Bunadh. Received Batch 62 for Father’s Day gift from my son. Regardless of the price....it’s worth every penny.

18th June 2018

Edradour it is...

Yeah this is pretty rubbish lets be honest. But hey! So many better bottles you can buy :) I'm going to raid Edradour for sherry bombs now

14th June 2018

Great but not at the new price!

Never thought I'd be bashing A'bunadh... But have to agree with most of the other commenters. It is a good dram, but too expensive at the current price. Better options available.

12th June 2018

One of the

I’ve just got it for £50 and it’s amazing!

12th June 2018

Git outa here!

Much loved but not sufficiently to accept a ridiculous price increase of £30+ or indeed owt like more than a couple of quid.

12th June 2018

Aberlour are losing fans quickly!

I used to love Aberlour. Really good whisky for a decent price tag. That has now been tainted by recent price shifts. Poor show (Chivas) Pernod Ricard.

Buyer beware

12th June 2018

Crazy and ridiculous price hike

Agree with all previous reviewers comments - the price hike for this whisky is absolutely ridiculous - I know this isn't MoM's fault, the increase appears to be across the board though it's still available at the 'old' price (£49) on Amazon at the mo (I assume not for much longer) - It's just about worth this but I'd take Glendronach 18 any day of the week for £80. So a 4.5/5 whisky has just been demoted to a 1/5.

12th June 2018

Madness

One of those moments that make me believe the whisky universe is going mad. Sorry Aberlour, but I won`t even bother looking at it at that price.

11th June 2018

Too expensive

More expensive than Glendronach 18... really?! Crazy money and does feel a little opportunistic.

11th June 2018

It's £49 for this batch on Amazon!

Pleasant dram but the pricing here is well out of step - unusual for MOM. It's £49 on Amazon or at ocado

11th June 2018

Lovely whisky, absurd price.

A rather outrageous price increase by the owners of Aberlour - pure greed. Very nice whisky, but no way near worth the £80+ price tag. Look elsewhere for your NAS sherry bombs if you're on any sort of budget.

11th June 2018

At £80 a bottle

This bottle used to be £35 everywhere in 2016. Then in 2017 it went up to £50. 2018 sees it upwards of £80. It’s just not worth it. If you like your sherry Bombs go for a Glenfarclas 105, £50 most places or the Balvenie 15 Sherry for £85.

I’d want something a lot more refined than this. It be 5* at a £40 a bottle. Just silly at £80
