Matured in two types of casks, the traditional oak and sherry oak casks and bottled at a slightly lower abv of 40% than previous editions, this 16 year old Aberlour is bursting with lush plum, raisin and even floral notes. A cracking Speyside malt.
Rich-scented floral and sweet raisin aromas with spicy nuttiness.
Smooth and full with sweet, floral and spicy flavours and notes of plum and gentle oak.
Long, warm, spicy fruitiness.

This is a pleasant scotch, but it is a wee bit bland. Would be better with a higher alcohol content
very smooth very pleasant a bit light on the nose and very much in the aberlour house style - extremely elegant sherry casking. a bit more ABV for the money is a fair request but then I see balkantines 17 at 40% going for £55. this rates as excellent value against that
As a long time SMS drinker, I am terribly disappointed with the Aberlour 16 bottled at 40 ABV. This is what happens when you drown a dram with a wee too much water accidentally. It is worse when a profit seeker does it and ruins the entire stock. Watery and no finish. Nose is light with the reduction in strength. Perhaps to hide the use sulfur. A novice might like this.
This review goes out to all the newbie's like myself. If you are looking for a single malt that is smooth and does not have that alcohol bite. Then this is the one for you. I have tried a lot of single malts but this one you can really drink straight.
I bought a bottle of this after having 2 or 3 bottles of the 10 yo which for sub-£30 is brilliant. The 16 yo extremely smooth but not as complex as I'd expect from a bottle of this age. I enjoy this scotch but I find the flavour is lost with water or ice so it needs to be taken neat which is why it gets a 7 from me.
