    Single Malt

Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured

Matured in two types of casks, the traditional oak and sherry oak casks and bottled at a slightly lower abv of 40% than previous editions, this 16 year old Aberlour is bursting with lush plum, raisin and even floral notes. A cracking Speyside malt.

    Tasting Note by The Producer

    Nose

Rich-scented floral and sweet raisin aromas with spicy nuttiness.

    Palate

Smooth and full with sweet, floral and spicy flavours and notes of plum and gentle oak.

    Finish

    Long, warm, spicy fruitiness.

    Very nice

I love this one, very solid and complex, a great buy considering its price.

    The 12yr is better.

I really enjoyed the 12yr and was looking forward to trying the 16yr. Very disappointed. Not much body, richness or complexity. There is a bitterness to it. I will go back to the 12yr.

    43% still available in France

I bought a bottle yesterday at Carrefour for 36 € (25 £). Bottle and box are identical to the picture shown here, except for the alcohol content. I'm not sure you can find it in Paris, but in the countryside they have it in every Carrefour.

    Waste of money.

What a disappointment. Great nose and nothing else.

Master of Malt Customer Jun 10, 2015

    What has happened to Aberlour?

I just wonder. My guess is that they are expanding production rapidly. That will explain watering down 43% to 40% and use of badly sulfured sherry casks. Oh these days, how deep can this distillery go?
