    Aberlour 10 Year Old - Pre 2007

Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, this is an older bottling of 10-year-old single malt from Aberlour. A perennial favourite, typical of the modern Speyside style and thoroughly approachable. Such is its popularity that this bottling has been exported to over fifty countries.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sweet and full. Sherried raisins, hints of toffee and a pleasant nuttiness.

    Palate

Quite full-bodied, spicy rich fruitcake, toffee notes and a creamy malty-feel and the vaguest whisper of something akin to synthetic banana.

    Finish

Caramel and honey, the malt still evident and the sweet spices still linger.

    Overall

    Lovely and rich.

Classic Speyside flavours at a great price very very decent

This is an excellent example of classic Speyside flavours fruity, rich, honeyed caramel. The price makes it very accessible it definitely benefits from a few minutes to relax. Just a shame that cheaper whiskies always get these reviewers comparing them to some much more expensive and exotic Whiskies, what is the point in even mentioning an (oft overrated) 12 year old Laphroaig in the same breath as a 25 quid 10 year volume produced speyside. There isn't any point at all in mentioning them, different style, different price different. comparing to a glenfarclas maybe, i think its holds its own against a Glenfarclas 12 personally. very decent stuff and something i would be happy to recommend at £25 or under

    Better than expected.

Was unsure at first what I would get. Overall I found it pleasant, smooth, with just the right warmth. Good for the price.

    Unpleasant to smell (at first)....

I managed to see this on my local paper-shop's shelf for £15! Think he'd mis-priced so I grabbed it for a test. When I first smelt it I thought "oh God, I'm in for a rough old ride. But the taste was warm, nutty, peaty and the after-taste was the best...a long slow warm honey glaze down the throat. Others feel the same on the nose - so I am happy they keep their hands away. Nowhere near my Laphroaig 12 yr old and even at £20 - this is a good general whiskey for the cabinet.

    A little more respect

I've been enjoying scotch for many years and I have enjoyed the best and the worst. This dram is still enjoyable and under appreciated. Drink it neat and you will understand.

    Good value

For £20 what do you expect? On the nose its sherry and caramel. The palate has toffee and warm spices. A reasonably long malt and sherry-driven finish that's not unpleasant, though it is a very simple malt. Pairing with food brings out some character, for example some banana and coconut ice cream helps accentuate the positive characteristics. I do prefer a punchier dram, I could drink this with dinner like a wine and not bat an eyelid! Would benefit from some peat!
