Seven-year-old single malt from Aberfeldy, distilled in 2015 and matured in American oak before a finishing period in a ruby Port cask. The cask was opened by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co., releasing a total of 474 bottles for The Cooper's Choice collection, without added colour or chill filtration.
Sweet layers of cinnamon, raisins, and stewed red fruit are joined by honeyed biscuits and a touch of floral malt.
Red apples and plums, with zesty marmalade and vanilla joined by waves of dark chocolate.
Ginger, cinnamon, and fruit-studded flapjack.
I bought this out of frustration at the £500 price tag of the Aberfeldy 25, one of the few 46% offerings they have. I've enjoyed the 12 and 16, but really wanted to see what a stronger offering could give. Independent bottlings, I thought. I found this one at 54.5%. The port cask lends a very fruity first impression. Sweet, floral. It's an fruit crumble on the nose. Sugarcane, barley, autumn on the tongue. 80%, berry infused dark chocolate on the finish. Good!
