    Cask Islay (A.D. Rattray)

Cask Islay is a small batch single malt Scotch whisky from an unnamed Islay distillery, bottled by A. D. Rattray, who have a bit of a history with excellent independent bottlings. This tasty rascal was matured in a mix of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry hogsheads, but who did it come from? Mystery! Suspense! Yummy, smoky whisky laden with fruit notes! Cask Islay has got it all!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Rich peat, candied orange peels and a light breeze of coastal air.

    Palate

Fresh orange and honeyed barley notes, surrounded by peat smoke. Quite oily. A hint of crumbly sea-side fudge glows in the centre.

    Finish

Sweet apple and light smoke lasts on the long finish.

    Overall

Delicious. Some classic Islay notes that will have you racking your brain for "Where did I taste that before?"

    un-aged and rough

I've been drinking and enjoying Islay single malts for years but this un-aged mystery whisky is only fit to be used as a mixer (if that!). Although there are certainly some identifiable Islay characteristics, they are seared from ones palate by the coarseness of dram. It may be drinkable if it is aged for several more years, but I will not be waiting in the queue for that!

Great value, we thought it's Bunnahabhain

Opened this one last night round a fire with friends, everyone enjoyed it. We have recently been to Islay and we think it's Bunnahabhain and that it was excellent value - but who knows the actual answer.

    Racking my brains

Like the overall notes. I'm wracking my brain to figure out what distillery this is. Just small sample of yhis and it's blown me away. Can't stop dreaming of it. Such a good whisky

    Very good

For me it is up there with the big Islay brands (Laphroaig 10, Caol Ila 12, Ardbeg 10 ). Definitely better than Finlaggan or even Talisker 10 (which is a pale shadow of the former itself) Strong peat, sweetness, 46 % ABV, and if coloured then not so much (like Talisker or Bowmore). Highly recommended, I would buy again

One of the best I’ve had in a while

Smooth, sweet and peaty. Lagavulin - I think!?
