Villa Lobos Blanco

The entry level tequila from the Villa Lobos range, which was created by Master Distiller Carlos Camarena. This Blanco tequila spends at least 6 months resting in steel tanks before it's bottled - a process which Camarena says adds a silky, elegant quality to the spirit.

I have a genuine fear that if you do you will buy it all and it will go out of stock. I have laid down a small surplus (3 bottles) but the wife will 'be unhappy' if I buy any more at this point as I also have reserves of the anejo, extra anejo and distill strength!
I have absolutely no idea how a Carlos Camarena product arrives here at this low price point. This family only make the most traditional hand crafted single estate tequilas (they also make the likes of Ocho, Pasote, G4, Tapatio etc). They clearly had the European market in mind with this one (its quite hard to find and a lot more expensive in the US) and went for extra aging for a silky smooth ride. That takes nothing away because the complexity and finish are simply superb. This competes with blanco's at ANY price. Even the bottle (hand numbered and signed) is a minimalist beauty. Please don't buy it all....seriously!

Nice. Real nice. Reaaaaaal...
This is an excellent blanco. Very well balanced. The agave is not aggressive which I assume is due to the 6 month tanking. This makes it rather light, but very pleasant to sip. I've enjoyed this neat and over ice, I'm sure it would make an excellent margarita too.
