Ocho Extra Añejo 2014 (La Magueyera)

Well-aged tequila from the Ocho selection, produced using agave from the La Magueyera estate harvested back in 2014. Incredible stuff - definitely one for sipping slowly and enjoying.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Maple syrup, toasted oak, salted popcorn, dark chocolate, cooked agave, floral wafts of rose and citrus blossom.

    Bottle #53 !!

Being in the UK and therefore a long way from Jalisco I'm usually wowed when I get any limited edition (normally numbered in the '000's). To get the 53rd bottle and so beautifully packaged (I've framed the fold out map that was in the wooden box!) was a real treat! But putting such fripperies aside, how good is the tequila? I've never had any Ocho product that wasn't fabulous and this is no exception. Its rich and buttery but there is so much agave it really hasn't given much up to the wood of the cask at all. And thats the only reason I have knocked a star off- this is an unusual XA because its light enough to be an Anejo. I tasted it alongside the Ocho Los Patos Anejo (5 stars) and they are very similar. My other XA's, (especially Tapatio Excellencia) are much more cask influenced than this is, and G4 XA even more complex. Ocho do this is done on purpose for agave lovers- they use new barrels here to limit the influence of the wood. Works for me, but it depends on what you want from your XA!
