Mijenta Tequila comes to us from the highlands of Jalisco, where it's made with sustainability in mind, crafted by Maestra Tequilera Ana Maria Romero. Produced with 100% blue weber agave, and bottled without filtration, this Tequila packs a bright, vibrant flavour profile showcasing the authentic flavours of the agave at its heart. The bottles are made from locally sourced stock glass, while the labels are produced using agave waste. The team also support jimadores through the Mijenta Community foundation, to preserve the skills used in Tequila making. In addition, Mijenta supports whale conservation, and has told us it is partnering with The Ocean Foundation to provide additional support during 2022!
Cooked agave richness, honeydew melon, a crackle of black pepper and cinnamon.
Blind you could be fooled this was a high strength blanco, harsh and spicy, not smooth and sippable, sorry.
Far too many new entrants in this crowded sector are trying to grab a slice of the current on trend demand or carry 'celebrity' associations rather than anything intrinsically worthwhile. My worry here that all the 'woke' environmental claims and the owner being the ex-CEO of Bacardi this would simply fall in line with the Me-Too's. It doesn't. For a standard strength blanco this is actually very complex. Cooked agave shines through, brine, olives, pepper and a smooth rolling finish- as MM say it really is "bright" and "vibrant" and has a crafted rather than mass produced feel. Very more-ish. It loses 1/2 star for the silly glass stopper. You have to pull hard but then it suddenly gives way meaning you jerk the bottle with the associated risks!
