Don Julio 1942 Tequila

The Top Cuvée from Veteran Producer Don Julio, named in honour of founder Don Julio Gonzalez-Frausto Estrada, who first distilled Tequila when he was just 17 years old in 1942. This tasty Mexican spirit is treated to 30 months in American white oak before it's bottled.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

A hint of green banana, vanilla pod and cinnamon, alongside toasty oak and distinctive roasted agave notes.

Reviews for Don Julio 1942 Tequila
Not worth the price
Was OK..... Just OK, definitely not worth the price!

Very good
Even if you aren't a tequila expert this stands out as tasting like something very much more special than the next best thing. Makes typical off the shelf tequila seem like lighter fluid by comparison.

Better than I had hoped...
This is one of those bottles that is going to have to make an appearance at some stage on your tequila journey, but I'd been putting it off fearing that it would prove over hyped (plus while I'm a fan of the Don Julio heritage, their lesser tequilas don't do much for me). The fact that this is now owned by the mighty Diageo and available in a UV bottle for those VIP nightclub experiences did not help at all!
BUT....its actually very good. Yes you can tell its been crafted to be sweeter with less burn in order to appeal to the wider audience but unlike some others I can mention it doesn't go too far. It still has a robust complexity and a rolling finish which quite surprised me. The quality presentation adds to the sense of occasion.
Is it worth it?...well that depends on the occasion.
Are there better Anejos at a much lower price?....oh yes, but you won't find them in nightclubs!

Overhyped
I really was looking forward to trying Don Julio 1942 as a product that's almost 'infamous'. Really wasn't a fan about how 'manufactured' the product tastes.
You can get much better anejos for the price

Good but can get better for a better price.
Very smooth, but for the price there are better options, Casa Nobly is just as good and half the price.

Top notch
Great tequila. Has strong vanilla/slight caramel smell like with the clase azul reposado. Taste has notes of chocolate, oak, and agave. Very smooth. Would love to try the Don Julio Real

One of the best Tequilas in Mexico
I know about premium tequila in Mexico, I live in Jalisco and have visited Tequila many times. This is one of the best bottles you can get. Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia also is one of the preferred premium tequilas here.

Not a big Tequila fan but this is ridiculously good
I have never enjoyed Tequila straight, only in mixed drinks. This has changed everything!! My co worker who is a baller (makes tons of money, hate him) bought some and was kind enough to share. I was just curious due to the price tag but one sip out of a snifter, McClairn glass and I am hooked. Not only do I like it, I love it! Everyone in my office who tried it was impressed. Has a mild sweetness and awesome floral smell that should be enjoyed out of proper glassware. This has truly opened my options to a whole new world of premium Tequila. Who would have ever thought!?
