The Original Rummers collection comes to us from the father and son lead Mallows Distillery in Wales. Inspired by the historic consumption of lemons and limes by sailors to ward off scurvy, this expression has a base of Caribbean rum infused with lemon and lime, a touch of orange, and a dash of sea salt. The result is a swashbucklingly tasty treat that can be enjoyed neat on the rocks, or in some interesting cocktails!
Sweet, silky butterscotch, plenty of citrus with zingy lime, zesty lemon and a hint of tangy orange, the touch of salt marries it all together wonderfully.
At first you get a hint of citrus, but the sea salt comes through very quick. It is also very sweet from somewhere, and that stays with you adding to the saltiness. If it wasn't as sweet and a little less salty, and a little more if the citrus it would be perfect. Probably better in a cocktail. But in its own, as above.
Tried this at a local food festival over the weekend - it sounded unusual and we wanted something different as a present for my son who loves Rum. This is a really different rum and the flavours work really well together - we created a wonderful mojito!
