Cadenhead's Rum

Though known more for their whisky bottlings (they're one of the oldest independent bottlers in Scotland!), W.M. Cadenhead also bottle delicious rums, too. This is their Classic Rum, made with spirits from the Caribbean. Plenty of rich fruit and tobacco notes, with touches of almond and chewy toffee. Yum yum yum...

Reviews for Cadenhead's Classic Rum
Impressive complexity and interest
Interesting blend, well constructed. All the individual elements are submerged into the collective.
It's dry, not too rich, not too heavy. There's a fair bit of burn, but it's balanced by the rounded ness of some older rum in the blend. My guess would be younger pot still rum and older column still.
An interesting alternative to Black Tot, and really good value.
Brown sugar, varnish and a touch of oak, with a very subtle floral vibe.

Balanced but light and a little oily.
Nice balance and well blended, but too much Panamanian column still for me. Considering it's 50%, the flavour is surprisingly muted. Black Tot packs a bigger and richer flavour

Amazing
For the price this rum is amazing, easily beats put any rum under £50 I've tasted, and has very little competition until you reach your premium rums

I curiously get pizza aromas and flavors in this.
Oregano, herbal, grilled cheese. Oven baked pizza dough.
Sweet-meaty, moreish. Tomato sauce.
Wonderfully sweetly floral.

This is a couple months in now.

Dinner and dessert in one over here!

~ Black licorice, red licorice - peppermint. Cardamon. Cocoa powder. ~ ~
Flavors really intensify with some air in the bottle!

Was not expecting it to be so much like an Armagnac. Initial neck pour impressions:
Figs and prunes out of the bottle. Dry wood. Very dry nose in the glass. The beach: mineraly, sea shells, faint smell of dried fish even, way in the background. Borderline but not actually salty. Really a fairly dry nose, like certain dry Armagnacs. Wonderfully green, grassy, herbal. Starts sweetening up with time, brown sugar. Not-overly-sweetened caramel. Hint of white pepper. Beaches again, boat and fishing beaches, not bathing/sunbathing ones. Sand, if sand has a smell. Boats in dry dock. Ginger root. Dry nutmeg.
~ Enchanting, truly. I can almost hear the seagulls circling overhead. ~ !
A splash of water brings out that sugar cane, that molasses, and takes the dryness down a bit. Sweeter, richer in the mouth. Cola cubes. Coca Cola. Slightest hint of some Asiatic cooking spices.

- " For what it is ", a 5 out of 5!
Solid, natural, no nonsense RUM.

Classic Rum Indeed
Usually drink whisky but have enjoyed some rums over the last few summers. This is excellent, and whilst the finish is a bit short and the flavours aren't overly complex, it offers a very tasty rum that goes from sweet, to herbal to dry. 'Classic Rum' indeed! The lack of any additions or CF are clearly evident and it's better for it. If you like Pusser's Gunpowder rum, or that style, give this a go.

Cracking rum
For the money this is a great deal especially considering it bottled at 50%. I don’t normally mix my drinks but this with a little coke is incredible.
