Equiano Rum is the delicious result of a collaboration between two fabulous distilleries, marrying liquid from Barbados' Foursquare and Gray's Distillery of Mauritius. The rum from Foursquare is aged in American white oak, while the liquid from Gray's is aged in French limousin oak and Cognac casks. It's then married in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at Foursquare, weighing in at 43% ABV. Two hemispheres meet in one bottle, and it's rather marvellous.
What's more, the spirit is named after Olaudah Equiano, a freedom fighter who played a pivotal part in the abolition movement, and the folks behind Equiano Rum donate 5% of the annual profits to ground level equality projects each year.
Buttery oak up front, followed by marmalade on toast, chocolate truffle and dried berries.
Still rich in chocolate and oak, though now with butterscotch and stem ginger in support.
Juicy raspberry, orange oils and caraway.

This is gorgeous, delicious neat. Smooth and so drinkable. A sophisticated level of sweetness, aromatic, toasted dry fruit. A little smoke, but beautifully balanced. This is distinctly different from any other Rum I've had. Also makes a lush Rum and Coke (a modest amount of coke) and I reckon it would be great with a little orange juice and lime.
Great rum for the money
I don’t often drink this type of rum neat but I was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent value, would recommend.
Nice Rum . Neat or with an ice cube. Not full of sugar like a lot . If your after trying a Rum that's not messed about with. Give it a try
I received a sample of this rum in this year's (2021) MoM Advent calendar and thus far (17 days in) it has been one of the highlights. I don't think I would drink this neat as it doesn't appear to be that type of rum, however I added it to some spicy ginger beer with a garnish of orange zest and it really is quite a decent rum. You should not be afraid to try this rum. It's a bit expensive for a mixing rum but I can't argue with the result.
