Oak
Distilled in 2013 at Hampden distillery, this rum was aged for seven years in Jamaica before finishing its maturation for two years in the UK. It was finished for five months in a New Yarmouth rum cask. It was bottled in 2023 at a rather hefty cask strength of 66.3% by Swell de Spirits for its Anniversary Cuvée Series.
Forget subtle, the esters are singing songs of rubber and bananas, dirty funk, lemongrass, flaxseed, tamarind duck, hyacinths and cloves. There's tarnished metal, boat varnish, graphite and mud face packs.
Dirty funk with rubber tyres, overripe flambée bananas, dark chocolate, cloves, paprika, lemongrass, guinea fowl, redcurrant jelly, grass, fresh sugar cane, rye bread and Art Deco chrome trays.
Rubber flippers and snorkel, milk chocolate hazelnuts, vanilla essence and overripe bananas in a tamarind sauce on a metal plate, plus Darjeeling tea right at the end of the very long and lingering finish.
