Skipper Rum Bottling Note

A delicious dark rum distilled in Guyana, Skipper was launched in 1930 and it still has the same label! A rich, thick spirit which works brilliantly well in cocktails, or with cola and a squeeze of lime.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Treacle, butterscotch and manuka honey on the nose, with hints of black pepper, espresso bean and charred oak.

Palate: Buttery and smooth with notes of crème caramel, gooey toffee and custard. Lots of spice going on, particularly pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Finish: Good length, fading away on cinnamon and gingernut biscuits.

A taste of Christmas
Super-treacly nose, followed by mouth-filling tastes of vanilla, dried fruits and clotted cream. This rum punches way above its weight.

Great black treacle taste
Pretty dam good. Don't mix it though as you'll loose the flavour. On par with Eldorado although not as smooth but much cheaper.

Nbr 1 Dark Rum
My all time favourite dark rum. A gorgeous Guyanese rum distilled on the banks of the Demerara River!

Proper old school
A proper old school dark rum. Fantastic VFM. A lovely winter addition for the hip flask.

Dark rum....a great addition to......
Firstly, I absolutely love the label!
The first thing that hits you as you contemplate a sip is the overbearing smell of treacle, the second thing once you’ve taken the plunge is the smoothness inside the mouth, a similar complexity to that of Ron Zacappa 23 ....which is not normally found in a £20 bottle of rum....this is followed by a slow gentle burn which doesn’t outstay it’s welcome.
Skipper is a demerara rum and its overriding flavour is treacle...which is to be expected from a molasses based rum....it couldn't taste of anything else! I would say this would be a great addition to any rum enthusiast’s cabinet.

Great value, great taste.
As a standard rum this has to be one of the best. Love it and worth every penny.

Not same
Hi, as a Skipper drinker and fan, I was aghast to see the label has been ruined by some amateur re-work! It is NOT the same at all! The original featured a very dashing destroyer, and superior art altogether. Grrrrrr. why?

Just to add that is my review next down, but forgot to score. Score is based on taste and value for money.

Very decent black rum
I tried this at at a Drambusters tasting, and bought a bottle for my dads Christmas. May get one for myself at some point, as it's great value for money, and one of the best I've tried in the price range. can taste the charred oak and black pepper notes but also other things going on. Try it - well worth it.
