Ron Santiago de Cuba 12yo

This is the 12-year-old expression from the Ron Santiago de Cuba range of rums. The distillery produces its own molasses, using sugar cane grown in south-east Cuba, which is then distilled before the rum is allowed to rest in white oak barrels. The casks are stored at The Don Pancho warehouse, and legend has it that due to its proximity to nearby train tracks, the barrels gently tremble as trains rumble by! A well-put-together expression from the Cuban distillers, plenty to enjoy here.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Good helpings of thick, rich caramel and sweet fruits - think orange segments and dried cherry.

Palate Quite nutty at first, though the fruit notes swiftly return (more tropical than before).

Finish Burnt sugar and a touch of banana.

Reviews for Ron Santiago de Cuba 12 Year Old Extra Añejo
Lo mejor de lo mejor!
Always loved Zacapa 23, Diplomático, Santa Theresa, Pyrat, Babancourt, Brugal Añejo, etc. Overall I always went back to my beloved Zacapa 23. That all changed the one time I visited the land of my fathers in 2015. I was introduced to Ron Santiago. I am told it is the original Bacardi recipes re-branded for obvious reasons. They have 11 & 12 for the añejos. Personally I found 11 ridiculously smoother. Legendario is also stellar but I drank Santiago 11 as if it was water! Amazing!

Hard to beat
Myself and my brother-in-law enjoy our rums. I'd not tried this rum but saw it was included in a buy 2 get 1 free offer. I took the plunge. My, I'm glad I did. It's a sign of a good rum when two guys sip their glasses, smile, nod appreciatively and settle lower into their armchairs. I wish I'd bought six.

Reading the reviews and having a large selection of very good rums,I have to say I was very disappointed. In my view not a sipper but makes a good mule, far better rums cheaper than this

Smooth…
Very smooth rum, lovely flavour, hardly any burn, great to drink over a large rock.

A bit rough
After reading the other reviews I thought this would make a good neat sipper but it’s a bit rough for me. Would be fine in a cocktail I reckon but it’s not a patch on diplomatico

Best rum in the world possibly
Beeing drinking Santiago for 12 years. Sometimes Anejo sometimes a little older but the 12 year old is pure gold. Little pricey in Cuba at 50CUC...but what the hell whats life without a little pleasure
