Pusser's 'Gunpowder Proof' Black Label (previously known as Blue Label) is a higher proof traditional British Naval rum, produced using the blending recipe from the Admiralty. Well loved, it picked up a Trophy at the International Spirits Challenge 2016.
The nose is full of dried fruits, dates, prunes, slightly overripe figs. The palate is very sweet, plenty of dark, syrupy, stewed fruits. An interesting pot still character with a pleasant muddiness. Full-bodied. The finish is incredibly long and dark.
An absolutely beautiful rum. Pity I'm a pensioner on a very limited income now!!
I'm primarily a malt drinker but find i'm making more and more forays into rum these days, not only for the taste but because of value. I drink it neat so can't say what it's like in cocktails, but if you want a traditional navy rum at a good abv then there's no better than this.
I'm a whisky drinker but got to say this Rum is as complex and pleasing as whisky I've had. Strong, intense, full bodied..... yet sweet fruity and smooth! With a warm afterburn... drink it neat with ice or mix and you will not be disappointed 10/10
Takes me back to my days in the Royal Navy.
Got a taste that goes right down to ya boots.
