Planteray Pineapple

A fantastic treat from the Planteray range originally created by the company's cellar master Alexandre Gabriel and drinks historian David Wondrich for Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans in 2015. To make it, they infuse the rinds of Queen Victoria pineapples in their white rum for a week then distil it, and infuse the fruit of the pineapples in dark rum for three months. These are married together and left to age in casks for three months. Pineapple deliciousness galore!

Also, if you're wondering about the name, it comes from the character Reverend Stiggins in Pickwick Papers, whose favourite drink was 'pineapple rum'.

We reckon Plantation Pineapple Stiggins' Fancy is one of our Best Rums under £40!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Honeydew melon, cola cubes and a hint of Jamaican ginger cake. Pineapple notes are authentic, but not overblown.

Palate Spiced molasses tart and crumbly shortbread. Pineapple lends juicy and slightly earthy elements. Cassia spiciness develops.

Finish Vanilla, lemon, mango and spearmint.

Reviews for Planteray Pineapple Stiggins' Fancy
Disappointing!, don't know what all the fuss is about
I didn't find this rum particularly good. Average in fact. I didn't notice any fruit flavour, but then my taste buds aren't very good.

Calvados?
It's ok... Tastes more like Calvados than rum though, a bit underwhelmed by it to be honest. Mixed it with soda and ice and found it a lot better.
For the price point I'd rather go with pussers gunpowder.

Smooth and sweet
Lovely rum smooth to drink with little after burn and sweet pineapple but subtle at the same time. Only way to taste the pineapple is drinking it straight I wouldn’t recommend with a mixer

Enjoyable though no big pineapple hit!
Not a bad sipping rum, easy on the palate and can easily be drunk without either mixer or ice. Pineapple comes through in background, sweetness and strength in equal measure.

Subtle but love it
If I'm honest, I was expecting more pineapple, but instead it's a subtle hint. That's no bad thing though! Relatively sweet but powerfully complex spirit.
Love it.

The best
The best IMHO…..sip it neat…….forget the cocktails…it’s wasted on them.

Fantastic flavour.
No gimmicky flavoured rum here, this is a proper rum with a beautiful hint of pineapple sweetness.

Subtle
If you’re expecting a tropical cocktail with an umbrella in it you will be disappointed. The pineapple is a subtle accent on a dark and rich rum. Excellent stuff. If you are after something with more in your face pineapple flavours I recommend Jamaica Cove
