13 year old rum all the way from Panama, produced as part of Malecon's Rare Proof range. These expressions are from single vintages, and bottled at higher-than-usual ABVs. For example, this one was distilled in 2003 and has been bottled at a generous 50.5% ABV.
Toffee apples, salted caramel and a hint of pine resin. A sharp touch of mango develops later on.
This is wonderful; I love this toffee, sultana, woody style and the lack of vanilla. Some bourbon-style traits (no bad thing) but still very much the classy Caribbean feeling as you drink it. A keeper.
