Jack Ratt Spiced Rum is produced by the fine folks at Lyme Bay Winery in Devon, made with Caribbean rum aged in bourbon barrels and spiced with nutmeg, orange peel, clove and vanilla. The name comes from Jack Rattenbury, a notorious smuggler in the West Country, and the type of fishing boat he would use to smuggle his contraband.
Although the recipe includes vanilla, it's intentionally in a supporting role here as the producers wished to avoid it "overpowering" the other flavours (as perhaps it does in some other spiced rums...).
Honey and caramel, with underlying banana-y esters. Slightly oily at points, with slowly growing spice notes at the core.

My wife and I purchased a bottle for batch 1 of this Rum, directly from Lyme Bay. It is absolutely amazing, the subtle taste of vanilla together with the rich taste of the burbon casks just makes it so easy to drink. We have purchased again as a gift for a family member and also have a second bottle at home.
Deserves 10 stars for the bottle. Lovely rum, super smooth, really sweet, banana to start, into a citrussy orange and then a vanilla taste to finish. Rather beautiful to drink.
Needs 6 stars for the bottle, but it’s not the best tasting rum going. I’m glad it’s in my collection, one of the few rums I have with a banana taste to it, amongst the cinnamon and caramel. Decent.
I got this as a sampler from Waitrose and was very pleased to do so as a rum lover. Tried it neat with a cube of ice and would compare it to Captain Morgan with extra cinnamon. Didn't even try to add coke as the sweetness was already turned up to 11. Not for me.
Very tasty premium dark spiced rum. Great branding, great packaging, great combination of flavours.
