Let Mermaid Spiced Rum from the Isle of Wight Distillery bring a splash of sunshine to your cocktails. Made with a blend of aged sugar cane and molasses rum from Trinidad and the Dominican Republic, and then infused with a whole host of botanicals on the Isle of Wight, including rock samphire, white cherry, apricot, honey, black salt, and warming spices.
To be clear, I'm very much a beginner Rum drinker. I was introduced to Mermaid by a Rum drinking friend and I absolutely love it. Probably because of it's inherent sweetness and smooth character, I could drink this stuff all night. I'm sure seasoned drinkers will scoff but this is my benchmark so far.
A little heavy on the cinnamon but certainly a drinkable sweet rum. Nice that it's 'B Corp' and i like the use of their local ingredients in the product. If you can get it nearer the £30/35 mark then well worth a try but I think £40 is a push to be honest.
A delightful spiced rum from the Isle of Wight distillery. A great addition to their range of spirits. Loverly and smooth either on it's own or with a mixer.
My local got a bottle of this and I'm converted. I'd typically have kraken or Dead Man's Fingers and this quite different and very morish. Would probably appeal to people who aren't keen on vanilla, clove etc
As far as spiced rums go, it’s almost average to say the least. Whilst the bottle itself looks great, and the addition of local products is a nice touch, it’s just a bit of a let down that it’s someone else’s product that’s just been rebranded after the addition of the spices. The taste itself is a quite sweet, and tastes like a budget drink that’s just been slapped together. A bit of a shame, really.
