This is the Rare Blend 18 expression from the Highball Express rum range, made with rums from the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Guyana, Barbados, and Jamaica. The name for the range comes from the flights folks would take during Prohibition to places where Prohibition wasn't a thing.
Enjoyably chocolatey, with a heaping helping of dried fruit underneath.
On the nose this rum smells of dried fruits. Drank neat, I found this to be neither dry, nor sweet. Taste wise, it’s slightly woody and smoky (reminds me of Ron Zacapa 23 in that regards) with a hint of vanilla and an alcohol burn that I would describe as warming, bordering on harsh. As a long drink this rum combines well with Coca-Cola, which I for one am very grateful for. That’s because the fizzy black stuff makes this sweeter and a lot calmer re the alcohol burn.
Dried apricot, hints of cocoa and butterscotch blended through like a butterfinger candy bar at times
