Havana Club Especial Bottling Note

Havana Club Añejo Especial is a blended Cuban rum which has been aged in white oak barrels, imparting both colour and flavour. Cuban rums are generally lighter in style, and this particular spirit would make a stellar backbone to any rum cocktail.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Complex, slightly honeyed nose with hints of vanilla cream, buttery toffee, cinnamon, cedar and sandalwood.

Palate: Thick, smooth palate. Good caramel-like entry with soft fruits, spiced oak, manuka honey and cinnamon.

Finish: Citrus and vanilla on the finish. Bittersweet.

Havana Club Añejo Especial Reviews

OK, for mixing though!

A little disappointed as I was expecting more rounded flavour, OK with a coke & twist of lime.

Currently my favourite Rum......

Tasted this as a miniature earlier in the year and have not looked back. I love the smooth, slightly oily (?) texture. Attractive fruit notes. One thing I would say, is that if you have had this and are thinking of trying the 7 year, in my opinion there is not 8 quid`s worth of difference, albeit the 7 year is excellent. The Especial has to be one of the best value Rum`s around.

👌 nice

Trying a few different rums at the moment. Always use to stick to kraken and Morgan’s spiced. This one is by far nicer and relatively inexpensive. Not as sweet and lovely to just sip neat. or a favourite of mine is to crush a lime wedge add loads of ice, a good helping of rum and some ginger beer. Delicious

Great cheap sipper

Better than the 3yo and 7yo in my opinion. Cheap and cheerful easy sipper, complex for the price nothing special but a great intro

I haven't tasted a good rum for such a long time. It's my quarantine fix, being stuck in doors for so long, it's going down nicely. Thank you
Ps reminds me of my holiday in Cuba.

A great rum for the price it's sweat but not overly so there's fruity/citrus notes and a wonderful creaminess to it. There's a lot to like about this rum, definitely one to try.

A great rum at a great value price

I love this Rum, nice and sweet but not overly so, deep flavours and it smells lovely. I prefer this to the more expensive Havana Club 7 Anos. I sip it neat.

A great all rounder

Quite different in character to Havana Club 7 which is much brighter and punchy, I've come around to the mellow vanilla flavours of the Especial of late. It's got its own thing going on and as a low price oak aged rum it's pretty unique and outstanding for the price point (usually under £20 somewhere). It's a low price rum you can sip and also blends really nicely with citrus and/or punchier rums in cocktails.

Not 'especial' enough

A good gold rum but nowhere near as good as the 7 which is only a touch more expensive.
