Havana Club Añejo Especial is a blended Cuban rum which has been aged in white oak barrels, imparting both colour and flavour. Cuban rums are generally lighter in style, and this particular spirit would make a stellar backbone to any rum cocktail.
Complex, slightly honeyed nose with hints of vanilla cream, buttery toffee, cinnamon, cedar and sandalwood.
Thick, smooth palate. Good caramel-like entry with soft fruits, spiced oak, manuka honey and cinnamon.
Citrus and vanilla on the finish. Bittersweet.

I love this Rum, nice and sweet but not overly so, deep flavours and it smells lovely. I prefer this to the more expensive Havana Club 7 Anos. I sip it neat.
Quite different in character to Havana Club 7 which is much brighter and punchy, I've come around to the mellow vanilla flavours of the Especial of late. It's got its own thing going on and as a low price oak aged rum it's pretty unique and outstanding for the price point (usually under £20 somewhere). It's a low price rum you can sip and also blends really nicely with citrus and/or punchier rums in cocktails.
A good gold rum but nowhere near as good as the 7 which is only a touch more expensive.
A notch better than Morgans, great mixer
Love it
