Old Salt Rum is produced by the English Spirit Distillery, and we mean that very literally. It's one of only a few rums distilled in England - no spirit brought in from far off lands makes its way into this one! It's made from pure cane molasses, which is fermented and then triple distilled in copper pot stills, and then the spirit is matured in English oak barrels before bottling at 42% ABV. It takes its name from the Old Salt Depot, where the distillery used to call home. No salt added here (though it'd probably pair very well with some sort of salted caramel pudding...).
Rich treacle and smooth caramel form a sweet aroma.
Cocoa powder, vanilla and syrup pudding.
The finish is a rich concoction of treacle tart and vanilla ice cream.

Just tried this bottle in Hong Kong, really stood out from the crowd, a very english approach in a sticky toffee pudding sort of way, and truly memorable. I Think its my new favourite!
I would say more a hot peppery taste leading to a heavy rich rum aroma and texture. It manages to intensify the effect both on pallate and effect. Impressed, a unique flavour.
Truly delicious. I don't like rum or dark spirits at all but we were seduced by the bottle and tried it over ice. Wonderful honeyed warm flavour. Do try it.
