Elements 8 Spiced Rum Reviews

Smooth and gorgeous.

I got this as part of a tasting set for my birthday. Lovely waft of honey and vanilla just opening the bottle. Couldn’t wait to try and was not disappointed. Smooth, light, full of flavour. Easy to drink neat but also sat well with ginger ale. I loved this!!

@Good Rum, but not safe for Coeliacs or those with Allergies to Wheat/Barley

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to leave your review.

We're sorry to hear of your reaction to this rum. Alcohol products are subject to the same European regulations as food. After much research conducted by the European Union, there is a specific exemption for products containing gluten which have been distilled so whiskies, including bourbon as well as other spirits matured in bourbon casks, are permitted to state they are free from gluten, even though they are made from barley/wheat/rye etc. The allergenic part is not deemed to cross over into the final spirit, so providing nothing else is added after distillation they are legally considered gluten free, although any addition added after distillation which contains a listed allergen would still need to appear on the label. Beer for example is not subject to this exemption, because it is not distilled. Rum as such, having been made from distilled molasses or sugar cane juice and aged in bourbon barrels, is also legally deemed to be free from gluten. This is backed up by Coeliac UK, whom we spoke to at length on this subject as they consider distilled spirits to be gluten free also, https://www.coeliac.org.uk/gluten-free-diet-and-lifestyle/keeping-healthy/alcohol/ There is some circumstantial evidence that spirits distilled from gluten containing sources can affect people with coeliac disease, however there has been no definitive link proven.

Whilst we do declare any notifiable allergens to the left hand side of this page, we hope this addresses your concern regarding the legality of the labelling and given your apparent reaction to a distilled spirit, we would recommend getting in touch with Coeliac UK as they do a lot of research on this topic.

If you have any further questions regarding this, please do get in touch with our Customer Service team :)

Good Rum, but not safe for Coeliacs or those with Allergies to Wheat/Barley

This is a great tasting rum BUT, as its been aged in old Bourbon Barrels, Bourbon =Barley which means it isn't safe for coeliacs, I am allergic to Barley, and I found out to my cost and it made me rather ill, very quickly. I do wish Alcohol Production was labelled like food products when it comes to allergies.

Strong and unique flavour. Very nice.

A delicious full bodied spiced offering that sits apart from others when it comes to flavour. Tastes like Chairmans Reserve Spiced but with added aniseed flavour. I don't normally tolerate aniseed in any form but here it blends perfectly with the rest of the spices. Please understand i'm not saying this tastes like Chairmans Reserve and a shot of Pernod, that would make me chunder just smelling it. Definitely a delicious drink that needs to be tried.

Disappointing

Disappointing, almost an anesthetic effect on the tongue.

Fantastic rum

The best rum I have tried - light and fruity. great partnered with coke, but equally very smooth on its own. Coming back to buy more
