From the fantastic Diplomático Rum selection, produced in Venezuela, comes Mantuano, a blend of aged rums that takes its name from the 19th Century Venezuelan nobles, the mantuanos, known for their discernment and good taste.
I like it I cannot lie, initially weary of all the reviews I'd read of it being a cheapo version of reserva but I have to say it's nice and stands up well as it's own.
This is like a younger sibling of Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva. The same flavours are there, but not nearly so deep and strong. Now for many, and myself included, this could be a good thing, I find DRE to be a lovely drink, but OTT in sugar and flavourings, the odd nip is nice to experience but more than that it is cloying and a tad sickly. Mantuano, however, is lighter in taste, but to my palette, has way too strong an alcohol/chemical burn and taste. If Diplomatico made a rum somewhere in between the 2 it might just be near perfect.
it is not very heavily sugar dosed actually, this rum. give it a try.
Being a newcomer to Rum,I only can say a great Rum. No harsh aftertaste and not to sweet. Very mellow on the pallet. I loved my first taste. And to add to a great experience with Rum, Master of Malt provided a great service. Fast and before time delivered .
Sugar dosed? Artificially colored? ~ I think not ~
