Diplomático Mantuano Bottling Note

From the fantastic Diplomático Rum selection, produced in Venezuela, comes their Mantuano expression.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Lightly charred oak, brown sugar, caramel-coated dried fruits. A good core of drying spice give balance.

Reviews for Diplomático Mantuano
Agreed with Luxurious below - I've tried both this and the Reserva and outright prefer this one. It's tremendous in a daiquiri as well as neat; ideal paired with a bit of orange dark chocolate!

Good solid rum
I like this one, slightly orangey on the nose and a long finish with a touch of coffee. Maybe slightly on the pricey side for what it is. I generally prefer Jamaican rum and find some of the Latin American ones too sweet but not this one.

Very pleasant sipping rum, rich and slightly spicy with a luxurious oily texture. I actually prefer this to the, much more expensive, ‘Reserva’, which I find too sweet.

Solid sip
Solid sip for the price! Some nice simple flavours for a beginner into rum.

It's also great as a starter sampler to get the pallet going before moving on to somthing with more complex flavours!

A Hidden Gem
Shhhh. Better than Santa Teresa 1796 but half the price.

Diplomático Reserva is expensive for a reason!
Great in a cocktail, stick to Diplomático Reserva for neat sipping rum. For the price it's ok.

Good for mixing, not for sipping

Good Quality Rum
I like it I cannot lie, initially weary of all the reviews I'd read of it being a cheapo version of reserva but I have to say it's nice and stands up well as it's own.

Some nice flavours, rough after taste
This is like a younger sibling of Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva. The same flavours are there, but not nearly so deep and strong. Now for many, and myself included, this could be a good thing, I find DRE to be a lovely drink, but OTT in sugar and flavourings, the odd nip is nice to experience but more than that it is cloying and a tad sickly.
Mantuano, however, is lighter in taste, but to my palette, has way too strong an alcohol/chemical burn and taste.
If Diplomatico made a rum somewhere in between the 2 it might just be near perfect.
