Pause for a moment and just take in this stunning partnership between two legends of their field – behold this exquisite rum from Columbia's Dictador, housed in a decanter specially designed by French crystal masters Lalique. The rum combines a unique blend of 1976 vintages, hand-selected from Dictador's stores by master blender Hernán Parra, and matured in American oak and Port casks. Meanwhile, Lalique's Artistic and Creative Director, Marc Larminaux took inspiration from Columbia's sunny shores, with the bottle designed to emulate the gentle ripples of waves at sunset – an appropriate golden hue is cast by the tremendous rum within. Only 300 of these were produced, a worthy centerpiece for a seriously good rum collection. In addition to the 700ml decanter, this set includes a crystal stopper, a stainless steel showcase/display stand that lights up when the bottle is positioned, and an additional 30ml sample bottle of the glorious rum to taste before opening the full decanter.
Freshly polished wood with hints of leather, ripe plums and a touch of clove. Cocoa powder opens up to layers of black cherry, nutmeg, cinnamon and a touch of deep mahogany, finishing with griddled pineapple and a hint of rose petals.
The palate opens with a deep note of dark chocolate, a hint of flamed orange peel and clove spices. Nutmeg is next up, followed up oak dryness, rich leather and madagascan vanilla pods. High quality coffee and a hint of star anise add an additional layer of complexity. A wonderful balance of ripe fruit sweetness rounded off by earthy spices.
Smoky toasted cigar tobacco notes are underpinned by oak spices and a light sweetness of plump raisins, rich stewed prunes, medjool dates and fig leaf. The finish is completed by rich dark chocolate notes, and more dry, earthy oak spices.
