Diamond Versailles 14yo Bottling Note

It's the third batch of rum from the Guyana's Diamond Distillery, produced using the wooden Versailles still. No matter how many times I hear the phrase 'wooden still', there continues to be a moment of pause in my brain where I have to stop have think, "Wait, how does that even work?!" Eventually that passes and I accept that it does work - and it works very well, if this rum is anything to go by. Probably works much better than that glass hammer or chocolate teapot featured on the label, anyway...

Batch 3 is a release of 2,207 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Plenty of oak, vanilla and banana fritters, with ginger, a little milk chocolate, brown sugar, toffee and touches of coconut, dried fruit and woodsmoke.

Palate: Juicy raisins, sultanas and orange peel, with rich molasses, a tannic red-wine-like note and darker caramel in support. A little sweet tobacco, herbal tea and dry baking spice add depth.

Finish: A long finish features golden syrup, sea salt and just a hint of engine oil.

Nice fruity rum

fruity on the pallet with a long Jammy Dodger biscuity aftertaste.

Unique

I'm a malt head with some interest in rum. Bought this because it sounded interesting and it was. A little difficult to get into really though. For me, quite a strong rotten vegetal funk note which wasn't completely terrible but definitely challenging. An experience in the same vein as my first laphroig, except I've still not come round to being good friends with this one yet... Also prefered neat rather than with any water

Scrumcious!

Bought this as I was interested in the profile the wooden still would give to the rum. There was a strong chocolate scent after letting it sit for a couple of minutes. The initial taste was harsh, however on second sip, one the palate had acclimatised, it is a pleasant drop without any water added. A pleasantly sweet taste, I don’t think this bottle is going to last! Absolutely fantastic rum, it’s a shame it’s only in 500ml bottles. Also got to enjoy with my new Glencairn glass.

Outstanding rum

An absolutely incredible drop of rum. A little water to open it out, a 10 minute wait and wow, what a ride.
Going to buy 3 bottles and stash a couple away.

Amazing Fruity Rum!

This rum is bloody marvellous!! I chose this rum as it was on offer and I couldn’t find my preferred rum ‘Mount Gay XO Triple Barrel’. Fruity, raisiny, sugary goodness. Even at 55.6% I enjoyed this tipple neat. Just give it 15/20 minutes to open up. The perfect summer rum.
